I have worked for four decades in a large international company, research and

in development, the IPR department and the legal department.

I have been an inventor and have received my own patents. I have been creating from scratch

functioning patent organization and developed the company's patent strategies. Familiarized with the large

to issue inventions and patents, and to license them to third parties, as well as to disputes

with competitors, who actually owns the patent rights.

I have been managing the company's trademark affairs for 30 years, the playing field is global. I am

seen good and bad brands, and saw how our own technology became global

a well-known brand in the industry. The same work involved managing the company's domain addresses.

I have also worked in the company's legal department and have drawn up hundreds of contracts,

mostly regarding confidentiality, collaboration, research, IPR issues, trademarks.

The counterparties include small companies from Central Finland as well as large giant companies from the USA and

everything in between.

I have been a trainer for a long time in internal company courses, where I taught IPR issues and

the importance of confidentiality. Based on the feedback I received, even the sleepiest participants

They stayed on track and the clear and understandable teaching got through.

In my work, I always strive for win-win solutions, and to find a balance between technical, legal and

between business and economic matters.

I am a chemist (and also a physicist) by background from the University of Oulu. In 1984 I started working in the research department of Neste (Neste Chemicals) as a polymer (plastics) catalyst researcher, and later as a group manager. In 1994 I was transferred to Denmark when the new joint venture Borealis A/S started operations, combining Neste and Statoil's plastic production. As IPR Manager I was then creating the company's practices and organization in IPR matters and taking care of invention and

patenting activities in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Austria and Finland. The work also included taking care of trademark matters and the company's domain name portfolio.

2002 was the year I moved back to Finland. For the next 14 years I held the title of “IPR contract and trademark manager”, still in the research department. The work broadly covered IPR matters, and especially the handling of related contracts, disputes and deals with other players in the industry. The trademark portfolio and domains followed suit. Making confidentiality agreements and other agreements (research, cooperation, consulting and licensing agreements) increasingly began to fill the email flow. Training for the group’s employees in IPR and confidentiality issues was also started, and I gave courses for over 10 years before electronic distance courses took over.

In 2016 I moved to the legal department, and the focus shifted more and more to contracts, legal matters and negotiations. I also had the authority to sign, in particular, confidentiality agreements on behalf of the parent company. My predecessor was in Vienna, at the group headquarters, all these years.

At the end of 2022, retirement years began to approach. However, I was asked to continue as a part-time senior advisor to both the Borealis Group and its parent company, OMV Austria. This lasted until the end of 2025.

I have no formal legal qualifications. My knowledge of contractual matters has been acquired through practical work, and its quality has been tested by the opposing party's lawyers.
